Operating Philosophy

Since Bill and Marsha Prestage founded their North Carolina-based business in 1983, the philosophy of doing each job well has been handed down to their children, their employees, and their contract grower families.  Through knowledge of animal production, extensive practical experience, and uncompromising personal commitment, Prestage Farms has become one of the United State's leading producers of pork and poultry.

History

Bill Prestage’s credentials in the livestock and poultry business are of the highest order. His career began with a feed company, Central Soya, where he worked as a regional sales manager. He has been in the business of producing pork, turkeys, and broilers for over 40 years.

In 1967, he purchased 50 percent ownership in a small, custom feed mill located near Warsaw, North Carolina. This mill, later known as Carroll’s Foods, grew to become one of the finest agribusinesses in the nation under his leadership.

Early in 1983, Bill Prestage sold his ownership in Carroll’s Foods and formed his own company near Clinton, North Carolina. In its first year, Prestage Farms had 23 employees and produced eight million pounds of turkey and 600,000 pounds of pork.
