Prestage Farms
Formed in 1983 with the purchase of
a small feed mill
located in eastern North Carolina, the Prestage Farms poultry division breeds, hatches,
feeds, and markets turkeys.
Currently Prestage Farms produces over 400 million pounds of turkey annually. Recognized throughout the nation as one of the leading producers of quality turkeys, the Prestage Farms turkey division competes well in daily weight gain, feed conversion, and livability.
Turkeys
produced in the State of North Carolina are processed and sold at Prestage's
processing plant located in St. Pauls, NC. Prestage Farms of South
Carolina sells its birds to
Louis Rich, a division of
Oscar
Mayer.
Prestage's production facilities consist of genetic breeding, brooding, and grow-out buildings. These state-of-the-art facilities are designed to optimize the growth potential of the animals. The company's facilities and equipment are operated in safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible ways.
Prestage's vertically integrated production process provides a number of strategic advantages important to achieve competitive production benchmarks. Continuous, scientific research; management of procedures; strict genetic control; systematic bio-security practices; just-in-time scheduling and delivery; and best-quality ingredients, supplies, and services are centrally administered to ensure consistency, quality, and competitive prices in the marketplace.
Prestage's genetic breed stock is managed in company-owned facilities by highly skilled employees who artificially inseminate breeder hens. Eggs are transferred to Prestage's state-of-the-art hatchery where employees begin a 28-day process which includes sanitation, incubation, hatch, and processing. Approximately 300,000 baby turkeys, or poults, are hatched at the Prestage Farms hatchery each week.
Hours after hatch, poults are delivered to one of Prestage's contract grower families to be fed and cared for until market weight is achieved. These families share Prestage's vision of quality, competitiveness, and environmental responsibility.
